Executive protection vs. a personal bodyguard: what’s the difference?
The terms get used interchangeably, but executive protection and personal bodyguards solve different problems. Here is how to tell which one you need.

“Executive protection” and “bodyguard” are often used as if they mean the same thing. They overlap, but the emphasis is different — and choosing the right model saves money and improves safety.
Executive protection
Executive protection is a program. It surrounds a principal with planning: threat assessment, secure transport, advance work at venues, residential security and coordination across a team. It suits leaders and high-profile principals who move between offices, events and travel and need continuity of coverage.
Personal bodyguards
A personal bodyguard is the close, physical layer — a trained officer who stays at the principal’s side and manages immediate risk in real time. Bodyguards are often part of an executive-protection program, but they can also be engaged on their own for a specific event, trip or period of elevated risk.
Which one do you need?
A simple way to decide:
- One-off event or short trip → a personal bodyguard detail
- Ongoing, multi-location risk → an executive-protection program
- Not sure → start with a risk assessment
DNA Sécurité offers both, and will recommend the lightest effective option rather than the largest.
